SCYP Community Organizer Bio

Cathy (Galbate) Jacobs was born and raised in Streator. She was first affiliated with the Youth Service Bureau in 1986 as an intern in the Criminal Justice program at IVCC in 1986. In March of 1987, she joined the staff full time as Community Service Worker for the Streator area and has stayed in that position for 19 years. She graduated from IVCC with an Associate’s Degree in Sociology in 1987. She is a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and has been associated with numerous committees with specific projects in Streator. She has three children who live in and are raising their children in the Streator area.

What services does the SCYP provide the Streator area?

The Streator Community Youth Program provides many activities with focus on family interaction. One of our more popular events includes the Easter Egg Hunt in the city park which serves approximately 600 youth annually. SCYP also sponsors activities such as our monthly Family Movie Day at RMC Cinema with an attendance of up to 200, Halloween and Valentine Carnivals for 100 or more, as well as a Disney Movie, Bingo and Games in the park.
